Downloading and installing Adobe Reader 9

Adobe Reader 9 is free software you can use to view PDF (Portable Document Format) files. Many companies and institutions use the PDF format to make information available over the internet. You can open and read PDF files directly from the Internet, or you can download them and save them on your computer. In either case, you will need the program Adobe Reader. On this webpage, you can read how to download and install the program Adobe Reader 9. Adobe Reader 9 can be run on the following Windows operating systems:

  • Windows 7
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows XP

In the examples that follow, Adobe Reader 9 is installed on a Windows Vista computer. If you have a different version of Windows, your screen will look a bit different than the screenshots you see below. You can, however, still perform all the necessary steps as needed.

You may want to print this webpage first. Keep the pages by your keyboard as you follow the steps below.

Begin by opening Internet Explorer.

Surf to www.adobe.com.

Here you see the Adobe website. Adobe is the company that makes Adobe Reader. On this page you will see a link or a button image that will take you to the download section of the website. There you can download the latest version of Adobe Reader:

Search for the hyperlink Click to download

In the next window, you will see the downloadpage of Adobe Reader 9:

The version of Windows running on your machine is automatically detected.
Click the Information Bar.
Install the ActiveX control

Your screen goes dark and Windows asks for your permission to continue. Click continue.

A message window aks if you really want to install this add-on. You want to install it.

Click save
Installation begins

Your screen goes dark and Windows asks for your permission to continue. Click continue.

Configuration starts
Installation begins
Installation is now complet.
 

Close Internet Explorer.

Adobe Reader 9 has been downloaded and installed on your computer's hard drive. You will see a new icon on your Desktop. From now on, you will be able to open PDF-files.
