Downloading and installing Adobe Reader X

Adobe Reader X is free software you can use to view PDF (Portable Document Format) files. Many companies and institutions use the PDF format to make information available over the internet. You can open and read PDF files directly from the Internet, or you can download them and save them on your computer. In either case, you will need the program Adobe Reader. On this webpage, you can read how to download and install the program Adobe Reader X. Adobe Reader can be run on the following Windows operating systems:

• Windows 7
• Windows Vista
• Windows XP

In the examples that follow, Adobe Reader X is installed on a Windows 7 computer. If you have a different version of Windows, your screen will look a bit different than the screenshots you see below. You can, however, still perform all the necessary steps as needed.

Begin by opening Internet Explorer.

Surf to www.adobe.com.

Now you see the website from Adobe Systems, the maker of Adobe Reader. On this page you will find a hyperlink to download Adobe Reader X:

In the next window, you will see the downloadpage for Adobe Reader X:

Your screen goes dark and Windows asks for your permission to continue.

A message window asks if you really want to install this add-on. You want to install it:

Adobe Reader X has been downloaded and is now installed on your computer. You will see a new icon on your Desktop.

Close Internet Explorer.
